         Fitness Classes 

 

I run small face to face and virtual classes aimed at helping you improve your fitness and confidence whatever your age. These classes initially started in order to support people with back pain. They have evolved so that they are now suitable for anyone who wishes to improve their fitness and confidence in movement. This includes people with limited mobility and painful conditions (such as back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia). 

The classes are run as a rolling programme so you can join at any point. They are designed to be educational, practical and fun. They incorporate current evidence based guidelines to combine aspects of visual imagery, appropriate exercise for fitness and pain, strength, mobility, balance, posture, bone health, breathing and relaxation. The aim is that the classes are enjoyable and practical, so you understand the principles and they can be continued at home supporting you form healthy habits that suit you. We focus on a different theme each week to assist you discover aspects that will most help you. 

As a Physiotherapist I will help you tailor exercise in an enjoyable and practical way that suits you as an individual, so you can continue within the group and independently in line with the latest evidence based guidelines.

Pain Management

Managing pain can be very challenging. As someone with long term painful conditions I understand this personally. As a Physiotherapist I have achieved a Masters Degree in Pain Management, and continue to update myself with the latest science and information in order to help support you to support yourself. 

Health and Wellbeing Coach

I believe that in order to help you that my role is one of a coach. I am an accredited health and wellbeing coach. I can help support and empower you with skills to help you move yourself forward both physically and mentally with confidence.

My face to face classes are in Verwood

Who is the class suitable for?

The classes are suitable for adults who wish to improve their fitness with the support of a Physiotherapist. 

ages range from 20s to 80s. 

Many people have painful conditions that have limited their activity. These include old injuries, arthritis, back pain, fibromyalgia. 

How much does the class cost?

I aim to keep the classes very affordable

You can attend the first class as a taster with no obligation to continue if it doesn't suit you

The cost depends on the class. Presently this varies between £7 a session for my virtual class to £10 for my evening face to face class.

What should I bring and wear to the class?

Please wear comfotable clothing and shoes that are easy to move in.

You should not get hot and sweaty but you may wish to bring some water to drink

Depending on the class you wish to join I may ask you to bring an exercise mat 

I will provide you with an exercise band and any other simple equipment that we may use in the class

Do I need a referral from my doctor or other health professional to attend the class?

No, you do not need a referral from your doctor or other health professional to attend the class, though you may find it helpful to have an assessment and advice from a health professional first as I will not be able to do this as part of the class.

I will telephone and meet with you before your first class to help understand your struggles and goals.

Prior to starting the classes I will ask you to inform me about any health conditions, and complete a brief medical questionnaire to ensure that I understand your starting point.

Are you able to give me individual advice should I require more input

In order to keep the costs as low as possible I can assist you with starting and progressing your exercises in class, but will not be able to do a detailed assessment as a Physiotherapist.

If you would like further assessment, advice and support I can arrange to see you individually outside the class as a Physiotherapist and/or coach face to face or virtually.
